18:25 – Linking BIM to FM – What’s holding us back and how do we make it happen! : Dominik Holzer (Owner, AEC Connect Australia)

Synopsis

There is no doubt that designers and contractors are increasingly asked to deliver “FM ready BIM”. Whilst such a request is becoming a standard deliverable on medium-to large scale projects (in particular within the public sector), the mechanisms for achieving a meaningful BIM to FM transition (that adds value to the client) often remain obscured.

With his consultancy AEC Connect, Dr Dominik Holzer has been working on this issue for the past 5+ years and he recently undertook an in-depth study on this topic at the University of Melbourne via a VIC government-funded research project. At MelBIM he will shed a light on what the main issues in the BIM to FM transition are and discuss how to overcome them.

Speaker Bio

Dr Dominik Holzer is a Design Technology specialist who works with a great number of stakeholders within the Design/Construction and FM industries. His expertise lies in the application of high-end technology and collaborative processes for the intelligent management of information across the supply chain and the life-cycle of projects. He applies his knowledge as a consultant via AEC Connect where he advises architects, engineers, contractors, client representatives, as well as educational institutions on strategies for implementing Design Technology (such as BIM) within their organisation and training programs.

Next to numerous publications in industry and academic journals, Dominik has published the ‘BIM Manager’s Handbook” in 2016; he currently works on his second book titled: Design Technology in Contemporary Practice.
