Synopsis

Current 2D land registration systems are not efficient enough to deal with high rises and complex developments. Therefore, 3D digital cadastre is being investigated internationally to enhance the current cadastral systems. Land Use Victoria, the responsible authority for managing land and properties in Victoria, commenced investigating 3D digital cadastre in 2014 and as part of this investigation, BIM was considered as a potential data model for the future developments of 3D cadastre. However, there are still limitations in this data model in regard to the legal aspect of cadastre which need further enhancement and development. This presentation aims to explore the potential of using BIM in 3D land and property management and suggest further enhancements to address the existing limitations.


Speaker Bio

Davood leads the 3D digital cadastre research in Land Use Victoria, within the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning in Melbourne. He has extensive experience over the last 15 years in designing and implementing a variety of research and industry projects, ranging from GIS, cadastre and BIM, to 3D visualisation. Davood completed his PhD on 3D cadastre visualisation at the University of Melbourne in 2014. He is currently working with the ePlan team to develop and implement digital cadastre services in Victoria.

18:20 – Object Libraries, why aren’t they Common? : Jon Mirtschin (Director, Geometry Gym)

Synopsis

Jon will present and discuss the existing situation where significant work is replicated across the industry in defining objects (such as Revit content) and properties (such as shared parameters).  Part of this presentation will be demonstration of work being done to take advantage of common efforts in this area.  This includes efforts such as http://openrfa.org/ and prototypes of content built on the fly from common sources with configuration by the end user on aspects such as templates, drawing styles and aspects such as hosted/non hosted behaviour.


 

Speaker Bio

Jon Mirtschin studied Structural Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Melbourne. He worked for 10 years as a structural engineer for Connell Wagner and Expedition Engineering on projects including Eureka Tower, the MCG, Wembley Stadium, Infinity Bridge and the 2012 Velodrome.  In 2009 he started Geometry Gym, a specialist firm developing BIM software tools, particularly for model exchange between various BIM applications.

BIM allows us the most efficient methods of designing, delivering and maintaining physical built assets throughout their entire lifecycle. In the recent years we have seen some new technologies emerged for collaboration and that also bring challenges in making decisions in electing data formats for collaboration. In this presentation, we will see side by side comparison on some of the best data formats used in AEC industries with its advantages and limitations. I will showcase the best practices in exporting BIM data from Revit for BIM collaboration. This will allow us to decide what type of data could be shared to protect your IP with your consultants, Builders, Renderers or clients. Although, the technologies are evolving, we will also see how we can collaborate these design data to achieve CDE (Common data Environment) using some free viewer and some paid application on PC, iPad, Tablets, Smart Phones.


Speaker Bio

Dhanjeet Sah has 19 years of industry experience, mentoring industry professionals in adopting BIM/CAD/CG techniques to set up real-world production pipelines and workflows while integrating multiple applications for a specific task. He has also worked for numerous projects, including Design, visualisation, 3D animation and BIM/CAD consulting for various multinationals and government organisations.

Working as a National BIM Manager at Rothelowman, his main role is to provide BIM implementation, consulting and training for internal staff across offices nationally to develop workflows that achieve higher levels of collaboration and efficient design through the use of Revit, Cloud Collaboration, AutoCAD, 3ds Max and other applications/technologies.

He is also AutoCAD, Revit and 3ds Max Software Certified Professional/ Instructor from Autodesk. He had spoken for events Autodesk University 2015 in Las Vegas, BILT ANZ 2017, Sydney Build 2017. He had also spoken and conducted workshops for several Autodesk reseller’s events in the UAE, Singapore, Nepal, Australia.
